Maya's his starter, and most likely a permanent fixture of Shino's party. She's quiet and obedient and easily amuses herself when left to her own devices, but tends to shy away at times. Although Shino is usually quite strict with his team, and always expects their best - his leniency with Maya is an exception. Not that she doesn't pull her weight in comparison to the other Pokémon. Maya just seems to be treated more softly, perhaps because she was with Shino from the very start. She was almost called "Firebug" thanks to Yumi's awful naming ability, but Yumi managed to make up for it by eventually giving Maya her name.

Trapinch was in one word, stubborn. Shino's had to step in to prevent it from chomping on the other Pokémon when they fall into Trapinch's pit, and it'd be near-impossible to move it once it buried itself into the ground, much to everyone's frustration. He'd bite pretty much anything or anyone if close enough, even as a form of affection - Naruto being one of his favourite chew toys.
Evolving hasn't meant he's outgrown being a pain. This time it's the noise and the ensuing headache. But he has developed into a pretty plucky and brave lil guy, one the most dependable of Shino's team.

Kamen is one speedy little bugger - and she knows it. She's competitive to a fault, especially when it comes to Shino's attention or when attempting to race with the other bug Pokémon... even if they're still in their larval stage and haven't learnt to fly just yet.
Her parents were Sasuke's Scizor and Yanma, and her egg hatched while Naruto and Shino were serving time in jail. For ditching work to go after Sasuke. Shino seems to think it's a not-so-amusing coincidence.

The odd one out. A NOT!BUG. Still an arthropod though. Kabuto takes things like training extremely seriously, but has a couple of quirky characteristics. The other Pokémon have learnt to get used to it. Or ignore it. Bit like Shino himself, actually.
On Naruto's request, Shino has been trying to address Kabuto by a different name... with minimal success. He's simply too attached to his original species name. Even upon evolving into a Kabutops... NOPE. Still Kabuto.

Perhaps a peace-offering after landing both of them in jail, or maybe out of the goodness of his own heart - whatever the case, this spider was a gift from Naruto. Yet another coincidence it was right before speaking at length to Obito about spiders, as well as capturing Kumo. It was just a day for arachnids.
Kidōmaru is headstrong and frankly, was a bit of a bully to Kumo. On rare occasions though, he used to allow Kumo to ride on top of her since he was absolutely tiny as a Joltik.

The first Pokémon Shino's ever caught himself. Sasuke mentioned this little guy would help fend off those pesky flying types, and he thought it was worth looking into. Kumo is a bit absent-minded; often there is a delay between Shino's command and an attack. There are times when he seemingly wanders off on its own when not under supervision. Usually he can be found hanging around sucking electricity from power outlets.
During the 4th wall weekend he befriended Vegeta's Joltik. Although Shino doesn't quite recall it, Kumo remembers perfectly.

Kushinada trains furiously to defeat Bugsy's Scizor, after having been regaled with tales of Naruto's battle with the gym leader himself. She's diligent, but often can resort to pulling a risky yet brave move for a win. Odds stacked against her? She'll endure and fight back anyway.
Prone to making one-sided rivalries with any other fighting-like bug Pokémon. Especially if male. Thinks Sasuke's Scizor, Kusanagi, is a little stuck up.

After a good couple of months, Shino finally made it to Bug Heaven (Ilex) and had been capturing and releasing anything new he encountered for research purposes. Kikkō is one of those whom he kept - it was an ordeal to get him to join the party, Shino almost losing an arm in the explosion.
Together they've been working on Kikkō's control over his explosions. No one's managed to pick up on it yet, but he's been trying to emulate Shino and trying to remain calm and composed, and there's been some good results! He still remains pretty shy though. These days it's rare that he'll blow up without the will to... except when it comes to him being embarrassed. KABOOM.

They only spoke briefly, but Barby had left both a good impression and her starter, Victoria, on Shino. They both discussed the Bug Catching Contest and their favourite insects, so it's kind of fitting in a way.
Victoria is a bit haughty when dealing with the rest of the Pokémon. It's taking some time, but she's slowly getting used to being a part of the team.
Shino intends to give Victoria back should Barby ever return. For now, she's in his utmost care.

"Poor Xiao'yu, she and Xiaoqiao got off to the wrong start with the latter wondering out loud how to descale and cook the poor fish. It took her a while to warm up to her trainer as a result. But in spite of that, Xiao'yu has become extremely tolerant of her trainer's antics (even the throwing)...perhaps because she's touched by Xiaoqiao's unique sort of gentleness.
Believing that Xiao'yu has her own brand of strength they focus on 'grace training' rather than typical battle training. Of course it's important to be strong too, those fancy jumps take crazy muscle control. She's becoming more confident and proud of herself, if nothing else her ability to deal with Xiaoqiao's quirks is something to be admired.
